Detailed description:

iSCSI SAN box with four 1Gb/s ports D-Link DSN-1100-10 is a basic economical solution for small and medium businesses. The heart of the DSN-1100 is as powerful circuit SoC (System-on-a-Chip), which is used in larger arrays, such as the products DSN-3000 series, but housed in a smaller chassis. Through the use of 10 Gbit iSCSI SoC solution that can handle over 80,000 I/Os per second, the DSN-1100 support 5 TB total unformatted capacity when using 1TB hard drives (or even new drives with higher capacity). DSN-1100 can easily be implemented as nearline storage or as a supplement to your primary backup and recovery.

iSCSI IP network SAN has been traditionally reserved for Fibre Channel networks until the recent introduction of iSCSI extended this powerful yet simple centralized backend storage system to IP networks. By utilizing existing Ethernet technology, the cost associated with separate host adapters bus and the price per GB stored data is significantly reduced. iSCSI SANs can leverage the Ethernet infrastructure and standards that your IT staff is already familiar.

Implementation of System-on-a-Chip (SoC) When constructing the DSN-1100 was used application specially designed integrated circuit (Application Specific Integrated Circuit - ASIC), which contains all the necessary functions for networking and storage. Integration of the entire device in a single chip is known as a SoC (System-on-a-Chip). The SoC solution combines DSN-1100 10 Gb/s iSCSI, TCP & IP offload, embedded processors and storage virtualization firmware. The tight integration of these functions eliminates interoperability, timing, and support issues found in competitive products that offer "discrete implementation" wherein the components are chosen separately and then assembled. DSN-1100 outperforms these discrete implementations and delivering mission critical data quickly with high reliability, while at a lower price.

RAID for Efficiency DSN-1100 has five slots for Serial ATA (SATA) drives, which can be changed during operation (hot-swap), and supports 5TB raw capacity using 1TB hard drives (and possibly the new higher capacity drives) in RAID configurations 0, 1, 1 +0 and 5 You can quickly deploy a SAN using inexpensive SATA disk drives and depending on your growing storage requirements can easily add more drives.

Embedded Centralized Storage Management Easy to use built-in IP-SAN Device Manager (IDM) provides comprehensive network management for data storage.

Four gigabit interface DSN-1100 includes four Gigabit Ethernet ports that support the IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation. This allows you to group all four ports and gain access to bandwidth to 425MB/sa greater redundancy.

Advanced Management Features DSN-1100 provides additional advanced features for efficient management of network storage and optimal performance: - For the fastest RAID performance offered in the industry, the D-Link adaptive cache management, which ensures merging write (write coalescing) and vícestreamové retrieving data in advance (read-ahead) on a volume basis, optimizing cache utilization and its activities depending on the application. Protection of data in cache memory in caseof power failure ensures the internal battery that can back up to 1GB cache memory for at least 72 hours. - VLAN Zoning supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging to segregate traffic into isolated zones for secure access and transfer large frames (jumbo frames), improving network throughput and reducing CPU overhead. - Virtualization volume uses the concept of storage areas (extents). Extents are the basic building blocks used to enable features such as RAID, online capacity expansion and volume migration. To create volumes is possible to use disks with different sizes. Growth can occur without volume migration or reconstruction. Individual drives can be used for several different RAID technologies. - RAID Support for RAID 0, 1, 1 +0 and 5 (striped sets, mirrored sets, striped mirrored sets and parity sets) allows for different data storage. - Online Capacity Expansion and RAID Level Migration are performed online with minimal impact on users. For example, a mirror volume of two drives can easily be converted to a parity volume of three or more drives while users continue to access this storage. - Micro Rebuilds provide protection against unresponsive SATA commands by forcing a response within a preset time limit.
